Pakistan: Interior Minister assures full protection of Chinese workers
ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (APP): Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday said the government w
ould look after the security and well being of Chinese nationals working at development projects in Pakistan. He was talking to Ambassador of China to Pakistan Sun Weidong, who called on him here. They discussed bilateral relations with particular reference to close economic cooperation between the two countries in view of regional security situation, said a press release. The minister said that both countries enjoyed decades old friendly relations and China had always been with Pakistan whenever it needed. He expressed the resolve of his government to further strengthening the relations between two countries.
Chaudhry Nisar directed the Ministry of Interior to strengthen the Task Force that looked after the security of foreign nationals working in Pakistan, especially Chinese, and ordered the ministry to strictly follow the standard operating procedures. The minister said the future of both countries was intertwined and they would have to remain vigilant of the elements that did not appreciate this surge in good relations. He also underlined the important role of China in regional security in the post 2014 scenario. The minister welcomed the institutional support of Chinese government for strengthening the civil armed forces of Pakistan, and also for the major development projects being carried out by China in Pakistan like Economic Corridor from Gwadar to Southern China. This would usher in an era of prosperity and development in the whole region, he added. The minister expressed his good wishes to the ambassador of his government and people of China on the auspicious occasion of Chinese New Year. Ambassador Sun Weidong appreciated the efforts of the government in establishing lasting peace in the region and extended the support of his country on recent peace initiative taken by Pakistan government. He also desired to increase cooperation between the two countries on the issues of counter-terrorism, anti drug trafficking, border management and crisis management. Sun extended the institutional support of his government for capacity building of civil armed forces and policing by training and learning from each other’s experiences. He also renewed the invitation of Minister of Public Security of China to the Interior Minister to visit China for further enhancing cooperation in related fields.
