May 9th 2023: Military Courts Punished 25 PTI Attackers
By Zaheerul Hassan
Military courts Convicted 25 civilians and sent them to prison ranging from two to 10 years for their involvement in violent attacks on military installations during nationwide riots on May 9, 2023. Earlier, Supreme Court Constitutional Bench conditionally allowed military courts to pronounce the verdicts of 85 under-custody civilians in cases pertaining to the May 9 riots. The culprits were sentenced after carrying out thorough investigations and basing on sold proofs in shape of videos. The convicted people were given the right to appeal and other legal recourses, however PTI rejects the sentences.
Though, PTI is condemning punishments to agitators but at the same time not owing for their attacks on military installations which is totally not understandable. PTI selection of targets, like GHQ, ISI setups, PAF Air Base, Corps Commander House Lahore and other government’s installations clearly shows her positional intentions of deliberate coups against present military leadership and bring Imran Khan again into power. Attacking military installations could be the foreign agenda of hitting center of gravity (Army). ISPR, very rightly expressed that every culprit including master mind of 9th May episode need to be punished according to his share, so that nobody should dare to target country vital installation in future.
In fact, the delay in dealing with the agitators occurred due to civil courts who gave stay to PTI against the conduct of the trial of civilian in military courts.
