New Pope Elected: Jorge Mario Bergoglio
Jorge Mario Bergoglio 76-year-old Archbishop of Buenos Aires has been choosen Poper and to be called Pope Francis. He became a cardinal in 2001. He was reportedly one of the front runners in 2005 and now appears to have been elected as the first pope from outside of Europe. The election procedutre took 3 days .
It’s the first time the name has ever been chosen and perhaps there is a symbolism there – St Francis committed himself to a life of poverty and is seen as one of Catholicism’s reforming figures.
Let’s hope that new Pope will try to bridge the gap between Muslims and Christian communities for the peace.
