By Balbir Singh Sooch

1. “The Life of Navjot Singh Sidhu and his family seems in danger in the hands of ‘Undemocratic, Unpatriotic, who are being Projected as Patriotic, intentionally and deliberately, under the garb of patriotism’;

2. But in fact, they are intolerants and the general intolerants are being provoked against Navjot Singh Sidhu and of similar others politically and other personal reasons under the atmosphere of intolerance in India and the reasons are best known to the whole world”.

3. The BJP leader demanded an apology from him for the “unacceptable act” and ‘The Shiromani Akali Dal said Sidhu broke the “decorum” by visiting Pakistan’.

4. Are such projected anti-social elements and so-called Patriots not responsible to spoil our relation with our neighbor countries and also for creating the atmosphere of intolerance in India and the reasons are best known to the whole world? As being observed by Balbir Singh Sooch-Sikh Vichar Manc

7. The Punjab chief minister’s statements comes at a time when rival parties such as the BJP have excoriated Sidhu’s conduct in Pakistan, calling it a “betrayal of India”.

12. Sidhu’s hug with Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the ceremony also came under fire with the opposition parties asking him whether he remembered the sacrifices made by the Indian soldiers at the border at that time.

13. “Sidhu’s visit to Pakistan is shameful,” said Punjab BJP chief Shwait Malik.

14. “On one side, the Pakistan army was involved in attacking our soldiers at the border and on the other side Sidhu was hugging the Army chief. Does it mean he was thanking him for killing our jawans?” he asked.

18. “The whole nation is observing seven-day mourning in the wake of the death of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. At this point of time, it becomes necessary that no minister should attend ceremonial functions. By visiting Pakistan, Sidhu has broken the decorum,” said SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema.

19. He said Sidhu’s hugging of Bajwa, who was sitting next to president of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) Masood Khan, has sent a “wrong message” to Indian armed forces.

29. “If you’re invited as a guest of honour somewhere, you sit wherever you are asked to. I was sitting somewhere else but they asked me to sit there,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said.

30. Justifying the hug, he said: “If someone comes to me and says that we belong to the same culture (Sikh Jat or Jatt culture) and we’ll open Kartarpur border on Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th Prakash Parv, what else could I have done?”

31. Sidhu’s Pakistan visit to his cricketing contemporary Imran Khan’s swearing in ceremony kicked up a massive storm back home—first because he accepted the invitation, and then because he sat next to Masood Khan and hugged Bajwa. With agencies: Tribune News Service; Chandigarh.

32.
