Jenni’s brother speaks out on singer’s death

It All Started With a Plane Crash: The superstar was reported missing after her plane reportedly lost contact with air traffic controllers in Mexico after taking off in Monterrey early Sunday morning. The plane lost contact with controllers about 60 miles after it took off and had two pilots and four other passengers onboard: her publicist, Arturo Rivera, her stylist Jorge Sanchez, her makeup artist Jacobo Llenares and her attorney Mario Macias

Authorities Find Wreckage: Mexican officials claimed that the wreckage of a small plane believed to be carrying the singer was found with no apparent survivors. Transportation and communication minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza told Mexican television that “everything points toward it being the plane” that carried Rivera and six others.

Rivera’s Family Speaks Out: The star’s father and brother spoke to Telemundo about the tragedy and confirmed Jenni’s death. “She never gave up and she was good to everyone,” her father, Pedro, said about his daughter’s legacy to Telemundo outside of his home in Lakewood, Calif. Jenni’s brother, Pedro Rivera Jr., tells E! News that the family is “devastated,” but added, “Life is like that. We live and we die. We may be sad, but when God has the last word for all of us in our last days, it’s time to go. And this was the way Jenni had to go.”

Why She Was There: Jenni was in Monterrey for a concert appearance. In a photo posted on her Twitter account on Friday, Jenni Rivera can be seen referring to her concert in Monterrey. In the photo she is seen holding up a sign with the words, “Nos Vemos este 7 en Colima, 8-en Monterrey. I love you!”  Translation: “See you this 7th in Colima, 8 in Monterrey.”

During a press conference after the concert, Rivera addressed her recent decision to divorce former Major League Baseball pitcher Esteban Loaiza.

“I can’t get caught up in the negative because that destroys you. Perhaps trying to move away from my problems and focus on the positive is the best I can do. I am a woman like any other and ugly things happen to me like any other woman,” she said. “The number of times I have fallen down is the number of times I have gotten up.”
